The Birth of High-End Canned Edamame Beans

Since April of 2023, Kingstar has been flooded with inquiries about canned edamame from customers in Europe and Oceania. As a company with 26 years of experience and industry resources, we initially thought this would be an extremely simple product to produce. However, after our procurement and quality control teams collected information from various channels, we discovered that while China has vast planting areas and a long history of exporting frozen edamame pods to the Japanese market, canned edamame is a rare product.

After evaluating samples from various suppliers in Europe, Australia, and China, we knew that producing canned edamame was not difficult. However, producing high-quality canned edamame was a different story. The main issue was that the edamame beans had to be shelled and then subjected to high-temperature and high-pressure sterilization to ensure commercial sterility and food safety. This process often resulted in the beans turning yellow and becoming soft, which was unacceptable for both their appearance and texture.

Our R&D team increased the acidity to protect the color and enhance the texture. After several trials, we achieved our objective, but the overall flavor of the canned edamame turned into a pickled taste, which was a completely different product type. We decided to tackle the issue head-on by refining the entire production process. We made adjustments and conducted experiments at each stage, from selecting raw materials to blanching time and temperature, and sterilization time etc., until we got it right. We also performed heat distribution and heat penetration tests on the sterilization retort to ensure the canned edamame was safe to eat during its shelf life. (GUIDE FROM FDA)

After a year of continuous adjustments and experiments, we are pleased to announce that in July 2024, we finally succeeded in producing high-quality canned edamame with a vibrant green color, plump shape, crisp and juicy texture, and no noticeable sourness. We are pleased to announce that this product is now being delivered to the Australian market.

We would like to express our gratitude to our quality control, procurement, and R&D teams for their invaluable contributions, as well as to our overseas customers for their patience and support. At Kingstar, we remain dedicated to our philosophy of "Beyond Just Supply and Innovation Drives Your Margin" continuously striving for excellence and meeting customer needs.
